Yin and Yang, the Chinese philosphy of opposites! This intrigues me, because life really is about opposites and opposition. It reminded me of one of my favorite scripture in the Book of Mormon: 2 Nephi 2:11 " For there must needs be an opposition in all things..." lds.org

I was told about this site and thought I would check it out for myself. It was interesting to read see cause you always hear rumors of so-and-so being members of the church, some are actually true, some are partly true and others downright not! :)

I discovered a site today full of tips to do in the morning.
"In the spring of 2003, three young Americans traveled to Africa in search of such as story. What they found was a tragedy that disgusted and inspired them. A story where children are weapons and children are the victims. The "Invisible Children: rough cut" film exposes the effects of a 20 year-long war on the children of Northern Uganda. These children live in fear of abduction by rebel soldiers, and are being forced to fight as a part of violent army. This wonderfully reckless documentary is fast paced, with an MTV beat, and is something truly unique. To see Africa through young eyes is humorous and heart breaking, quick and informative - all in the very same breath. See this film, you will be forever changed." A friend told me about the Invisible Children site and WOW. I also watched the DVD on Google Video and man somthing needs to be done about this terrible war. Watch this movie. |
Wow, what a week!

Someone asked me the other day if I was keeping up with my singing. For a moment I thought, "You know, I don't perform and do as much with my singing as I did a couple years ago, okay I have changed countries, started college, live on mt own, work part time and do my best to maintain my fairly good GPA, cook, clean, do laundry, date, socialize blah blah blah! So as you can see I am so busy that I was neglecting my music. Granted I had kinda kept up playing guitar and had learned to play a few songs from friends, but my SINGING had come to almost a halt, with exception of once or twice a year in church and once a year in the International Talent Show held at BYU.

What is it about trees that attract kids so much? I came home early to day (4pm instead of 9pm) and since it was such a nice day today I lay on a bench under a tree and read. As I looked up at the sky I had falsh back of me as a kid playing in my front year. There was one tree to the side of our property that me and my siblings and the neighbour kids always played in. It was a tall tree, not one that you could built a tree house in, and yet we loved it. We spent many an afternoon climing, hiding and just having fun in it. I think we even made up stories or games in it.
I love taking pictures, sometime I think I should have studied photography. Much to my chagrin I have a cheap (it was my first digital) camera, but I am buying myself a Canon A530 for Christmas - I can't wait!

Mopsy, my doggie, that we've have for about 15 years, died last week Thursday! She was truely a best friend and she will be missed dearly.
A friend copied this poem in a letter she wrote to me when I was 14. I have remembered it through the years and found the words today. Believe it or not this poem was written when Mattie was only 5 years old. To read more of this extraordinary boy and more of his inspirational words visit his site.
This is one of my favorite songs, if you can call it that. It's more of a great message! Here are the lyrics: Kuddu's to Baz Luhrmann, this is inspirational stuff. Thanks...
"If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it. The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience...
I will dispense this advice now.
Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth; Oh never mind; you will not understand the power of beauty of your youth until they have faded. But trust me, in 20 years you'll look back at the photos of yourself and recall in a way you can't grasp now how much possibility lay before you and how fabulous you really looked...
You're not as fat as you imagine.
Don't worry about the future; or worry, but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubblegum. The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that never crossed your worried mind; the kind that blindside you at
Do one thing everyday that scares you.
Sing
Don't be reckless with other people's hearts, don't put up with people who are reckless with yours.
Floss
Don't waste your time on jealousy; sometimes you're ahead, sometimes you're behind...the race is long, and in the end, it's only with yourself.
Remember the compliments you receive, forget the insults; if you succeed in doing this, tell me how.
Keep your old love letters. Throw away your old bank statements.
Stretch
Don't feel guilty if you don't know what you want to do with your life... the most interesting people I know didn't know at 22 what they wanted to do with their lives, some of the most interesting 40 year olds I know still don't.
Get plenty of calcium
Be kind to your knees, you'll miss them when they're gone.
Maybe you'll marry, maybe you won't, maybe you'll have children, maybe you won't, maybe you'll divorce at 40, maybe you'll dance the funky chicken on your 75th wedding anniversary...
Whatever you do, don't congratulate yourself too much or berate yourself either- your choices are half chance, so are everybody else's.
Enjoy your body, use it every way you can... don't be afraid of it, or what other people think of it, it's the greatest instrument you'll ever own.
Dance... even if you have nowhere to do it but in your own living room.
Read the directions, even if you don't follow them.
Do not read beauty magazines, they will only make you feel ugly.
Get to know your parents, you never know when they'll be gone for good. Be nice to your siblings; they are the best link to your past and the people most likely to stick with you in the future.
Understand that friends come and go, but for the precious few you should hold on. Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and lifestyle because the older you get, the more you need the people you knew when you were young.
Live in
Live in
Travel
Accept certain inalienable truths, prices will rise, politicians will philander, you too will get old, and when you do you'll fantasize that when you were young prices were reasonable, politicians were noble and children respected their elders.
Respect your elders.
Don't expect anyone else to support you. Maybe you have a trust fund, maybe you have a wealthy spouse; but you never know when either one might run out.
Don't mess too much with your hair, or by the time it's 40, it will look 85.
Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia. Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.
But trust me on the sunscreen..."

Some friends and I were up at Sundance this weekend. We had a little fashion show up there! It was such fun. I loved telling the guys what to do and being the photographer. I really would like to pursue it more. I will put some more shots up here sometime. Its funny, these guys look like a music band don't they? :)

Here are of 3 self-help Family History & Genealogy books that I have read or used recently that are fantastic and I highly recommend.
I have come to not only use but LOVE Wikipedia. It is soo useful and has wonderful information on it. I came across the Mormon (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) Wiki today while reading LDSWebGuy. It looks great and I am excited to read it. The internet is wonderful!

This is my city! I love it. Click on the link above to see a great view of Cape Town, South Africa!
This is a great website. It has people all over the world reading the same sentence and you can hear their "accent". Accent though is such a biased word. I don't think I have an accent, but when I go overseas people there think I have one, while I think THEY have one! :) Check this site out its great!
So, I don't have an ipod, so what I can hear anything I was for free through this virtual ipod. It's sweet. It was made by our friends in france! Merci beaucoup mon amis! It's one for my favorite sites right now!

This is so awesome! It gave me goose bump (it may just be the awesome music). I wish I had of had such cool stuff available to my when I was in high school studying Biology! For instance I found a great site www.johnkyrk.com yesterday that had visualizations of cellular Biology. It was sweet! I LOVE BIOLOGY!

Ok, I discovered YouTube this summer and I love it, you can find clips of almost ANYTHING - no joke - if you think man I wish there was a clip of ________, chances are you can find it here - however WARNING!!!!! it is highly addictive!
You can download the text or audio of past BYU Devotionals, Woman's Conference talks and Sperry Symposium Talks. It is a great site!
This is one of the coolest things I have seen. You paste the text you want to read in the box, and then select the speed at which it will flash the text. You can also change the alignment and the size or text as well as how many words are displayed at a time.
I was watching a DVD about Celine Dion yesterday, and I was amazed (I have always admired her as a singer and person) not only her talent as a performer, but at the person she is and has become. I would LOVE to see her show in Las Vegas, unfortunatley I don't think it will happen. First of all tickets are very expensive and I don't see myself going to Vegas again before here show. I guess Provo isn't THAT far, but as a poor student with no car, chances are slim.
I just met Mark Chamberlain, author of "Wanting More" at the BYU Education week book signing.
I am currently reading "A History of South Africa" by Frank Welsh. I am very impressed so far. He has a great style, and while it is a think 558 page volume I am quite into it! Not at all like the other two (French and Dutch) history books I am yawning... I mean reading ;)
I saw a book on sale the other day at the Bookstore and thought... mmm, that looks interesting. A few days later I saw it again and this time I bought it. The title of the book is WANTING MORE: The Challenge of Enjoyment in the Age of Addiction written by Dr. Mark Chamberlain.
So I just thought I had to write down how much I love my bike and how much I enjoy my adventures on it, making me feel like a kid again. I often explore roads and areas that I never would on foot, and I like to ride the curns and also a very reliable means of transportation, no need to worry about it running out of gas, or if the engine will start after a cold night... I can park it almost anywhere and I dont have to really worry about vandalisation or it getting stolen :) and i wont even mention that I got this bike for FREE!

Get a "GOOD" job! (lol)
Continue learning French & Russian!!!I was just interoduced to THE REBELUTION (thanks Ben) and read the most amazing article. I had been struggleing recently with myself, and this article seemed to tip the scales. What was I fighting with myself about? - PROCRASTINATION and WASTING TIME! I have recently found myself getting more and more sucked into the internet. Spending hours a day blogging, watching online movie clips, talking on messenger, checking my email 5 times an hour (I wanted to be sure to get my mail ASAP) and mind-numbing-web-surfing! My subcoucious mind knew i was out of control, but it was like I could not help myself. I would wake up, and turn on my laptop - for no pressing reason or purpose except to catch up on Prison Break fan fiction, or discover some new website or see how many friends in my IM were online. Funny thing, its not like I had nothing better to do, infact I have a TON of stuff I need to do, and yet, I found reasons to ratiaonlize my current obsession and addiction.
I actually work for this project, so i guess you can say I'm biased, BUT this really is becoming a great place to not only search of names, but has some great links, and resources as well as Bibliography! Check it out.
I have found some blogs I like, however it is tedious to go to each site and look for and read new or interesting posts. Bloglines allows you to subscribe to blogs, therefore minimizing time, so you can spend more time reading and less surfing!
My friend Ben, just showed me abit about how coding works. Basically there are different "languages" where you specify things that you want to happen and not happen and then it is translated into HTML and can be see as a website. I am very interested in this. I have learned alot about HTML having a blog and find it fun to explore different application. HOWEVER, it takes alot of time, but is fun none the less.
Publishing for the common "Joe". For people who just want to publish "on demand" inexpensively. This is the place for you!
This is such a great invention - keeping track of sites, like a favorites list, except it's not limited to the computer you favorite it to - its all web based. You add a url and a description and tags, so that you can easily find the site in your account! I LOVE this!
